on the recent events with gackt

[UPDATE 2/26 9:05 AM:] he made a statement clearing everything up so all is good now. honestly i think this is the most amount of backlash he got for something but i'm glad he considered what people were saying. woohoo! that makes this entire thing completely irrelevant now

i know what youre probably thinking: oh look it’s mr. “being a gackt fan is my entire personality trait” speaking of course he’s going to glaze this man. no actually. in fact i’m about to do the entire opposite
okay so what exactly happened? at 8:41 PM JST, he made a statement that was straight up fucking GLAZING trump. yeah. insane opener but allow me to continue.
japanese viewers supported this shit that he spewed out while running on 3 hours of sleep (i am not even exaggerating) while viewers from the rest of the world received this very, very badly
but why the rage for him specifically, rather than anyone else? this requires a bit of jrock and visual kei history and knowledge regarding gackt as an individual in those scenes specifically and a bit of his own personal life which he has shared publicly. not going to make this too long, but to sum it up, he's OPENLY BISEXUAL, A RYUKYUAN FROM OKINAWA which is an ETHNIC MINORITY IN JAPAN, WAS WIDELY KNOWN AND STILL IS FOR BEING GENDER NONCONFORMING, and upon all that is a CROSSDRESSER. oh and he's ALSO KNOWN FOR CONSTANTLY PUSHING ANTI-WAR AND ANTI-IMPERIALISM THEMES THROUGH HIS WORK wow. that was a lot.
i think you can see how contradictory hypocritical whatever the fuck what he said is. now let's get a bit more into these sorts of fuck-ups he's done in the past. i won't cover what they were for because it isn't really relevant, but exactly the cause of them

number 1. in 2007 he did some stuff or whatever that could be considered cultural appropriation for very reasonable explanations. HOWEVER, this entire situation happened because this man had no way of doing research on thost sort of things and not to mention he's from japan. like almost everyone there is east asian. not saying that he did, but a possibility is that he just interpreted this as some sort of normal thing for anyone and what happened happened. but whatever, this got over in less than a year and he changed whatever was going on up and all and it got over.
number 2. in around 2013 or so if i remember right he was supposed to be some sort of investor or promo guy for something that got people to invest in that thing. then something happened and it didn't go as expected aaaand boom. people got mad at him claiming it was his fault they wasted their money buuut whatever. but yeah people were mad at him
number 3. in 2015 or something he was doing some clothing type thing with some other guys and he was one of the guys in on this project and he approved all those designs only until later it was revealed thaat those designs were plagarized and upon hearing this he kinda just left the project. people got upset at him once again claiming that he

now, what factor in the cause of the backlash he got do these all have in common? lack of research.

i think it'd be nice if he'd consider what fans are saying, but i understand the mentality of wanting to avoid criticism at all costs. everyone is like that sometimes, and for some, it's an ongoing thing and i can say this for sure as i unfortunately am one of those people myself even if i'm still learning.
i'm still choosing to support him cause for one part, he literally won't be able to do shit with any goverment in any way considering at most he's just some singer actor whatever type of guy and because at most this is just me personally disagreeing with one of his views which is something that occurs even with people such as friends. it's just that it's someone who's work i appreciate doing this, so me disagreeing is way less significant than say if i didn't have the same views as a friend of mine.
